Think before eat : One in five deaths globally linked to unhealthy diets

The United Nations estimates that nearly one billion people are malnourished worldwide, while nearly two billion people are highly malnourished. 


One of the five deaths globally is linked to unhealthy diet, the expert said and warned that excessive amount of sugar, salt and meat was killing millions of people every year.Consumption of healthier foods such as nuts and seeds, milk and whole grains was on average too low and people consume too many sugary drinks and too much processed meat and salt.

In Global study found," 11 Million deaths in 2017 were linked to people eating unhealthy diets in sugar,salt and processed meat that lead to heart disease, cancer and diabetes."

 The global burden of Disease study tracked trends from 1990 to 2017 of consumption of 15 dietary factors. Chris Murray, director of the Institute for Heath Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington which led the work, said it "affirms what many have thought for several years".

"poor diet is responsible for more deaths than any other risk factor in the world," he said 

"Our evaluation shows that the main dietary risk factors are low intake of sodium or healthy foods, such as whole grains, fruits, nuts, seeds and vegetables."

Studies have found that people are only 12 percent of the recommended quantity of nuts and seeds an average of 3 grams per day consumed more than the recommended 21 grams, which is 10 times the recommended amount of sugary drinks. High diet in sugar, salt and bad fats is considered a risk factor for heart disease. Stroke, diabetes, any type of cancer. The global diet includes less than a quarter of the whole grain compare it with an average of 125 gram on an average of 29 grams about 4 grams per day in average intake, compared with the recommended amount of 4 grams per day - Recommended 2 grams. 




Suggesting 'Ideal Diet' for the health of people, in a study published, it has been suggested to double the consumption of nut, fruits, vegetables and legumes and to consume meat and sugar intake.

In the breakdown of dietary deaths, the A study found that in 11 million in 2017, approximately 10 million were diagnosed with cancer, around 913,000 and around 2,000,000 heart diseases were diagnosed with diabetes.

Annual deaths related to diet increased by 8 million in 1990, but researchers said that due to the large-scale population and aging of the population.
